Good Morning!

Our 3rd  Mandelbulb 3d Teaser starts today!!!
As per our group rules, winner of 2nd Teaser Dave :iconlightbulbmoon:, has got the privilege to coin the rules for this Teaser...

Here it goes....

Before that....Please see this link for General Rules...[link]
Here is a list of Tutorials for MB3D...[link]

The 3rd Teaser Rules
--------------------
"DE combinate - 4Da"

The rules are that you must use any IFS formula as F1 and use the remaining formula from the given list of 4Da formulae....in DE Combinate option.

The only formulae allowed for F2-F6  are as follows:

_ScaleC4d
HalfOct4a
HalfOct4b
Menger4
Menger4ex
MixPinski4
MixPinski4ex
Octahedron4
Sierpinski4
Sierpinski4ex

These can all be found on the "4Da" list in the formula window.

You may fill any of the six formula slots in any sequence.
Julia is OK. you can use any mode of your choice ...like Min, Max, Inv Max...etc
Please start from scratch - no tweaks!
If it is necessary, you can use a Background picture, like sky etc... provided, it should not occupy major portion of your deviation.

It is not required that you post your full parameters but it would be of interest and appreciated if you could indicate in the description, what settings specific to the DE combinate you chose.

Please submit your deviations in the folder "3rd Teaser"
Each participant can submit 2 deviations.
Last date of submission - 25th February 2013

Good Luck! Have fun!!! :iconbigheartplz:

well when I saw the rules posted I immediately assumed that the Abox ones where not to be used as they were not on the list and I excluded them from my experiments...... that seemed clear enough to me but I can see how confusion could arise from opening up the 4d tab and seeing the ABox formulas in the 4D list there..
From a personal point of view I really don't mind if some have used Abox, if people feel that they have missed out by not using it they can of course remove any one or both of their entries and resubmit something that they prefer which includes the ABox formulas!
How does that sound to you all ? There is still ample time to investigate Abox as an option and it is in the 4Da list.. it is just a minor hiccough and the whole teaser concept is meant to be fun and experimental..!! thanks to Hal for bringing it to our attention.. (tim starts furiously working away with ABox ;) )
I will put out a journal that offers the chance to use ABox and anyone can resubmit if they please unless a majority don't agree on this neh! ...but I don't really see a reason to be uptight about it

I don't want to start trouble or get anyone in trouble. but I did want to clarify the rules, so I have a question. The 3 Abox formulas under the 4Da tab are not listed along with the ten allowable formulas that can be used in Fo.2- Fo.6. So can the three Abox formulas be used or not?

Thanks for this post, Hal...it's not mentioned in the list of Formulae in our rules....so it can not be used....

After reading this I was checking our entries...and I have noticed that in one of the entries this formula was used...actually it was my fault...I thought it as a Teaser entry and asked the participant to submit it in our group, without realizing that ABox formulae were used in it....now I have rectified my mistake..so sorry about this....Once again thank you so much for posting this for clarification.....:D

That wasn't the only one, there are a several more. It might be worth mentioning or clarifying in a new message sent from the group because there are others that don't seem to be aware of it. Just a suggestion. :)

Unfortunately, my list of formula in the 4Da tab only contained the 10 listed. I thought it was a good way to reasonably limit & constrain the Teaser. Since we are so far into the Challenge I think we should rule to stick with the 10 I originally listed - even though I did say the entire 4Da tab was OK.

My thinking is that if we now expand the list, those people who have already submitted their entries will feel handicapped in some way.

Am I correct in interpreting the situation that there are no entries with that use a formula outside of the 10?
Hopefully that is true & we can continue with a level playing field.

Sorry for the confusion. I hope this clarifies it.

I was in no way suggesting that the list be expanded. I suggested sending a clarification out clearly stating that they (the Abox formulas) are not to be used. And yes, there are several more entries that I am aware of [link] and [link] that are using Abox formulas. There may even be more as I have not looked at any of the parameters that have been posted. Again, I wasn't trying to change anything or cause trouble, I only felt it should be cleared up before more people make the same error and use formulas that aren't allowed.
